Safeguarding
Broad Oak is committed to safeguarding and promoting the physical, mental and emotional welfare of every pupil. We implement a whole-school preventative approach to managing safeguarding concerns, ensuring that the wellbeing of pupils is at the forefront of all action taken. We recognise that no single professional can have a full picture of a child’s needs and circumstances. If children and families are to receive the right help at the right time, everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.

Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is a police and education early information safeguarding partnership enabling educational settings to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass ensures that there is a simple telephone call or electronic notification to a school’s trained Designated Safeguarding Lead /Officer (known as Key Adult) prior to the start of the next school day after an incident of police attended domestic abuse where there are children related to either of the adult parties involved.
Following a domestic abuse incident attended by Lancashire Police, at which children from our school were present, or related to either of the adult parties involved, Lancashire Police will notify us prior to the start of the school day. Information is shared with a school’s Key Adult (Designated Safeguarding Lead or Officer). This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child.
Our schools (key adults) are trained as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or Back- Up Designated Safeguarding Lead. These identified adults in our school are Miss Sarah Barton (Head teacher), Miss Sarah Meredith (Deputy Headteacher), Mrs Kelly Dytham (Family Support Worker) and Mrs Alex Sutton (Teacher and SENDCO). These members of staff liaise with the police, when required, whilst ensuring support is available to the child.

Preventing Radicalisation In School
PREVENT is part of the UK’s national strategy to keep people safe from the risk of radicalisation and extremism. Its aim is to protect individuals from being drawn into harmful ideologies or groups that promote violence or hatred.
For Broad Oak, this means:
- Early Support: Helping children understand respect, tolerance, and positive values.
- Safe Environment: Spotting concerns early and offering guidance before problems escalate.
- Working Together: School working with families, and communities to share the responsibility for keeping children safe.
PREVENT is about safeguarding and supporting young people so they can thrive in a safe, inclusive society.
