Welcome To Our School

Broad Oak Primary School was established on Pope Lane in 1982, serving the local catchment area and offering a primary education to children aged 4 to 11.

The building is bright and stimulating and is of a semi open-plan design, surrounded by two playgrounds and a newly drained sports field. The first thing you will notice when entering the building is the welcoming reception and waiting area where we ‘show off’ all our achievements, certificates and trophies.

The school has two spacious main working areas; an infant (Foundation & KS1) area and junior (KS2) area. Each of these has its own ‘shared’ area used for various practical activities, e.g. group work, computing, art and craft, and practical science activities.

These spaces also enable us to deliver the new more ‘Creative Curriculum’, being able to use two spaces at once with a class or indeed classes of children.

It is in the shared areas where we also use laptops for whole class ICT lessons (Information and Communication Technology).

All classrooms are carpeted, have interactive whiteboards and house extra computers for the children to work on.

A large hall is equipped with PE apparatus and, at lunchtimes, this is where dinner is served. In addition there are further smaller rooms and a newly refurbished library for group work and supervised independent study.

We have spent a lot of time and energy developing our outdoor provision for the children. We have fantastic outdoor learning areas for the Reception and Key Stage One children as well as a developing wild area called 'The Den'.

Our latest additional to the outside of the school are the clamber stacks. These provide extra activities for our children to take part in during break times and dinner times.

Our award winning Science Garden, including a potting shed, compost facilities and raised beds provides the opportunity for each child to get their fingers dirty. They can take turns to grow strawberries and vegetables such as radishes, runner beans and onions.

Broad Oak is a warm and welcoming school, where the pupils enjoy school and are happy (OFSTED 2013). We like to see parents in school and you will always be invited to join us when your child is taking part in class assemblies, celebration assemblies, open days, and for lots of other events during the school year.

The school has strong links with other primary schools in the Penwortham Cluster and also benefits from close liaison with our nearby High Schools. You can find out more about our networking with other schools from our website.

The overall staffing is nine teachers including the Headteacher. We have seven classes in school. Occasionally, children work in small groups. This happens, for example, when children need special support or for group activities.

Displays.

We take pride in how our school looks and create wonderful displays. Here is an example of a few:

Working Closely With Other Schools

At Broad Oak, we work closely with our local cluster of Primary Schools and together, we have developed a Code Of Conduct. The documents below give further details of this initiative.
