As part of our ‘Earthlings’ topic, we have turned our role-play area into a Space Shuttle. It is equipped with a planetarium projector, QR code activities and solar system models. Take a look at the pictures below, which were taken during the grand opening!
In Science, our topic is ‘Rock & Roll!’ and we have been learning all about different types of rocks and fossils. We started off our topic by using the iPads to research facts about fossils – did you know the oldest fossil is over 6 billion years old! We looked at the jobs of palaeontologists and we even pretended we were palaeontologists for the afternoon by using toothpicks to extract chocolate chips from the cookies! We realised what a hard job this is to pick out the fossil without destroying it.. although I’m sure the palaeontologists don’t eat the rest of the rock like we did with the cookies!!
This week we have been looking at what is underneath us and have learned about the different layers of the earth. To help us remember we have made ‘mud puddings’! Have a look at the pictures to see what sweet treats we used to represent each of the earth’s layers!
We didn’t realise learning about rocks would be such fun!!
