Year 5 are enjoying reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis. We have done lots of writing from the book including writing our own chapter.

Hope you enjoy our display.

At the beginning of the year we would usually hold a 'Meet the Teacher' afternoon, however, in the current circumstances, this unfortunately cannot go ahead.

Please see the attached Powerpoint for lots of information regarding your child's time in Year 5.

At Broad Oak, we follow the Lancashire planning documents.

Year 5 Taster Day At Priory Academy

Year 5 had a great day out at Priory Academy last week. They had an introductory session where they could ask Mrs Farley lots of questions and then it was on to design technology with Ms Hardwick. Each pair was given an envelope with an assortment of objects in and they had to work out what they were going to construct then put it together without any instructions. There were some puzzled faces at this point, but the children relished the challenge. They were then shown what the completed project looked like and made modifications. They then trialed the balloon powered vehicles and, once again had to modify their design to try and create the one that would go the furthest when raced. Congratulations to Lee and Leonie who worked really well together and whose balloon powered vehicle went so far, they nearly ran out of space!

Next, it was P.E. with Mr Bullock where the children learned how to play badminton and after lunch , the children produced some amazing art work.

Years 5 & 6 At Parliament 2019

On Thursday 19th September Year 5 and Year 6 had the chance to go to London for the day to visit the Houses Of Parliament. (You just have to love the book Caleb chose to read on the way!) The children were really excited from the moment we got to Preston railway station as not many of them had been to the capital before.

Once we arrived at Euston, it was straight on the Tube to Trafalgar Square, then down The Mall to Buckingham Palace. From there, it was on to Parliament for an escorted tour. The children learned all about how the two houses and The Queen work together to pass laws and how democracy works in Britain. It was then back onto the Tube again, heading towards the stunning London Bridge and the Tower Of London. After lunch by the Thames, it was straight on to a tour of the warship H.M.S. Belfast, which the children and adults found fascinating. The trip back to Euston at rush hour was a little hectic but thanks to Virgin Trains, once there, it was totally hassle free. We had an amazing day out in the London sunshine and were very proud of how well-behaved the children were throughout the day.
