School meals

School Meals are provided by an external contractor and are prepared on the school premises. We would ask that dinner money is paid in advance. This can easily be done using the online payment system. Alternatively, parents can send the correct amount in either by cheque or cash.

Please click on the link below for details of the online payment system at Broad Oak. You should have received a copy of this letter with a unique payment code when your child started school. If this has been misplaced, please enquire at the office.

Some parents may be eligible to receive free meals for their children. The Lancashire County Council booklet on benefits explains this and the school is always willing to help put parents in touch with the appropriate department at the Area Education Office.
Children who have free meals may have a packed lunch, when they are going on an outing with the school. The Cook needs notice to organise this.

Children may bring a packed lunch if they are staying at school but not having a school meal. Facilities are provided in the school and water is available if required.

EXISTING ARRANGEMENTS (FROM SEPTEMBER 2014) FOR CHILDREN IN YEARS 1, 2 AND RECEPTION.

From September 2014 all pupils in reception, year one or year two in primary schools will be entitled to free school meals.

For pupils in other year groups, to qualify you must be getting one of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Job Seekers Allowance (Income based)
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Income related Employment Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit (If you are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income is less than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit during the four week period immediately after your employment finishes or after you start to work less than 16 hours per week.

Free school meals cannot be granted on a discretionary basis. You must also live in Lancashire.

 

HOW TO APPLY

To apply, one option is to contact your Area Education Office by phone (see details below). If you provide them with your name, date of birth and National Insurance number they can immediately check your entitlement via the DFE Electronic free school meals checking service.

You do not need to apply for free school meals if your child is in reception, year one or year two. Please contact your child’s primary school to check what your child needs to do to receive their meal free.

PUPIL PREMIUM.

If your child is new to reception, year one or year two, and you receive certain benefits, you can register your eligibility with the council and the school will benefit from additional funding, called pupil premium.
