Design and Technology
Design technology prepares children to take vital part in the advance of progress in today’s rapidly changing world. It enables pupils to identify needs and opportunities and to respond by developing ideas, and eventually making products and systems. Broad Oak’s design technology curriculum enables the children to gain knowledge and understanding of materials, structures, controls and mechanisms. It also provides them with opportunities to develop their designing, enquiry, scientific and mathematical skills. Many of the DT projects at Broad Oak are linked with the topics the classes are studying. For example, year six link their work on ‘heroes and healthy living, with the project of making ‘healthy snacks’ Year 1 learn all about growing plants, fruits and vegetables and then design and make their own fruit salad.
