We recently entered a team of six Year 6 girls into a competition run in association with S.T.E.M. , Leyland Trucks and the Leyland Truck Trail. The idea of the competition was to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths in schools in an attempt to inspire children to take more of an interest in these subjects.
The team, which comprised of Annabella, Jess, Lauren, Emily Anna and Mia had to design and make a prototype truck and once through the first stage, the girls had to present their idea to a panel of judges in a ‘Dragons’ Den’ scenario. The girls were supported throughout the process by Mrs Bush and Mrs Coulson.
This was their idea which was influenced by Broad Oak’s strong ECO work:
The competition was open to high schools as well as primary schools and we had extremely tough opposition.
We were crowned overall winners at Leyland Festival on Saturday 17th June and we couldn’t be more proud of the team:
The winning truck now has pride of place at the front of the school and looks absolutely great!
