Last week, the Year 6 children had a visit from STEM First who are currently touring schools encouraging children to get more involved and excited by science, technology, engineering and maths. This followed on from the tremendous success of Broad Oak in the Leyland Truck Trail competition in the Summer. The morning was based on various questions created by the seven sponsors of the Truck Trail and included lots of fun activities. The children were in groups and worked on developing skills such as teamwork, co-operation, communication, delegation, time keeping, creative thinking, resilience, planning and organisation and STEM knowledge. Each team had to overcome numerous challenges from complicated mathematical calculations to designing logos and building a Lego truck in order to score points. Our thanks go to Rachel Brickell of @careers_inspire and STEM First for the hugely successful morning which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children and staff.
